Blackboard Learn: How to Import Question Bank Files
print icon

Both System Administrators and Instructors have the permissions to import question bank/exam files into Blackboard Learn once they have activated their subscription. There are two parts to this step: Download Question Banks from the Online Instructor Resources and Upload Question Banks into Blackboard Learn.

Download Question Bank/Exam Files from the Online Instructor Resources

  1. Under the Resources folder, select Online Instructor Resources.

  2. The Online Instructor Resources will appear. Scroll down and select the Assessment Software & Question Pools section. Note: The Online Instructor Resources will look different than the screen captures below if your copyright edition is prior to 2023. However, the same instructions apply.

  3. Expand the Blackboard Learn Learn 9.x section and select the name of the question type zip folder to download (i.e. Exam Questions, Pretest Questions, Posttest Questions, etc.).

  4. Once the file is downloaded, extract the files from the ZIP folder.

  5. After files are extracted, there will be one ZIP folder for each chapter. Do not extract each chapter folder – leave those zipped.

Upload the Question Bank/Exam Files into Blackboard Learn

  1. Back in your Blackboard Learn course, under Course Tools, select Tests, Surveys, and Pools.

  2. On the next screen select Pools.

  3. Select Import Pool.

  4. Select Browse Local Files.

  5. Open the unzipped folder and select one chapter/unit zip folder to upload. You may only upload one zipped folder at a time.

  6. Once the zip folder has been attached, select Submit.

  7. On the next screen which reads Pool Import Complete, click OK to go back to your pools.

  8. Repeat this process until all chapters/units and question types (pretests, exams, posttests, etc.) have been uploaded into the course.

  9. View all Question Pools upon completion.
